Made-up languages, part 1 ~ The Linguistics Zone

Made-up languages, part 1

How many of you have actually made up a language, even during early childhood? Here are two basic examples of such languages.

Op-talk: Insert the letters "op" after each consonant in the word, and leave the vowels alone. Example: yes -> yop-e-sop

Gibberish: Insert "udda-g" after the first consonant in each syllable of the word. Example: yes -> yudda-ges

Why invent a language?

A reason to use an invented language would be to keep those without "expert" knowledge out of the topic of conversation. Say for example, if you and a friend wanted to talk about a forbidden subject, you could use "op-talk" (assuming none of the others around you knew about it!) to communicate. Of course, the aforementioned examples aren't too difficult to crack, and thus one might move onto something more complex.

My friend and I in high school used korean and japanese dictionarys to come up with code words for your notes. Though not made up, it did conceal our conversations so to speak. Also, do you realize there is a audio course on how to speak "Klingon", the star trek language. Its a made up language with a course to learn...lol...

Nice, this is very interesting way to code messages. Japanese though can be a very hard language to interpret.

When I was little, my friends and I had invented an entire fantasy pretend kingdom, with its own language and everything.

We would walk around the adults talking in this language, and would even talk to them in it. It would drive our parents crazy sometimes, because we would talk like that, even when they were trying to get us to be serious.

intresting, would not have thought about it that way myself.

I made a made up language using Japanese, Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin)& Korean to make my secret language: Kanjese (Kanjo Pyandiklanti). Haha its very funny using it around others! XD

Nah, actually I have 2 brothers and one sister who know this language as well. Speaking this in a coversation makes it more interesting.

yeah, inventing words or phrases are awesome i mean, my friends and I used to have a coding language that only the three of us knew. But I forgot those words now. Hope we can remember so that we can start talking in our own coding language now that we are adults already. keep on posting! thanks!

my mom taught me a language called "feezitch". she said that she learned it when she was about 12 and all the kids in the town knew it. i've taught it to all of my friends, but i can't find anything about it on the web. has anyone on here ever heard about it? it's similar to gibberish-- you add "eez" into every syllable after the consonant or group of consonants. i.e. "yes" is "yeezes". "dog" is "deezog" "tuesday" is "teezuesdeezday" etc. it was supposedly created be a guy named Fitch, hence "feezitch". does anyone recognize this?

i did tuesday wrong. it's "teezuesdeezay"

I'm inventing a language right now, hence why I stumbled here :-)

It uses english as a base and replaces every syllable (or sometimes letters like the plural -s) with something more suitable. It's supposed to be a troll language, so I'm generally after the sound, not actually speaking it :-P

XML stands for eXtensible Markup English Language (extensible markup language) is an extensible meta tags developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It is a simplification and adaptation of SGML and defines the specific language grammar (in the same way that HTML is itself a language defined by SGML). So XML is not really a particular language, but a way of defining languages for different needs. Some of these languages that use XML for its definition are XHTML, SVG, MathML.

XML is not born only for use in Internet, it is proposed as a standard for exchanging structured information between different platforms. It can be used in databases, text editors, spreadsheets, and almost anything imaginable.

XML is a simple technology which has around others that complement it and make it much bigger and with a much greater possibilities. Plays a very important today as it allows for compatibility between systems to share information in a safe, reliable and easy.
